9. Appropriately utilize laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, dissection tools, general lab ware, physiology data acquisition systems, and virtual simulations (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, 4) measured by: Terms pop test, a major lab practical, and measured by: Group teamwork pop tests.

10. Work collaboratively to perform experiments (PSLOs 4) measured by: measured by: Group teamwork pop tests.

11. Demonstrate the steps involved in the scientific method (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, 4) measured by: Terms pop test, a major lab practical, and measured by: Group teamwork pop tests.

12. Communicate results of scientific investigations, analyze data and formulate conclusions (PSLOs 4) measured by: measured by: Group teamwork pop tests.

13. Use critical thinking and scientific problem-solving skills, including, but not limited to, inferring, integrating, synthesizing, and summarizing, to make decisions, recommendations and predictions (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, 4) measured by: Terms pop test, a major lab practical, and measured by: Group teamwork pop tests.
Core Objectives PSLO ALPHA: Reading skills - Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material.

Identifies all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading.

PSLO 1: Critical Thinking Skills, Uses creative thinking, innovation, inquiry and analysis, evaluation and synthesis of information.

Creatively identifies problem, argument, or issue (to determine extent of information needed); differentiates the facts from opinions as relates to situation; constructs possible solutions or prediction or consequences; uses logical, sound reasoning to justify conclusion.

PSLO 2: Communication Skills, Demonstrates effective development, interpretation and expression of ideas through written, oral and/or visual communication.

Expresses a strong thesis; organizes information with effective transitions & sequencing of ideas; uses substantial, logical & specific development of ideas; details are relevant, original, credible and correctly documented when appropriate to show an effective development and interpretation of ideas; and presents ideas in appropriate mode of expression for the task.

PSLO3: Empirical and Quantitative Skills, Applies the manipulation and/or analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions.

Identifies mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete task; uses mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete task; analyzes how to use the principles; and applies problem-solving skills in mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete task with correct informed conclusions.

PSLO 4: Teamwork Skills- Shows the ability to consider different points of view and to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal.

Final Exam Date July 1, 2019 - 10:00 AM   Through  July 1, 2019 - 1:00 PM
Grading Scale 90 - 100=A 80 - 89=B 70 - 79=C 60 - 69=D Below 59 = F
Determination of
Final Grade
There will be four (4) main lab practicals during the semester and a pop test possible during every lab. I will drop your lowest lab pop test, and no lab practicals will be dropped. The average of your pop tests are worth one lab practical. Your final lab grade will be the average of your four lab practicals & the average of your three highest pop tests. Formula = P1 + P2 + P3 + P4 + (avg. of pop tests) divided by 5. If a student has perfect attendance (or near perfect), two points will be added to the final lab grade. A comprehensive lab final will be given to students who missed a lab practical. If a student misses two practicals, they receive a zero for one practical and can replace the other zero with the comprehensive final. No make-up practical exams or pop tests are allowed for the week without a legitimate doctor's signed excuse.
Course Policies
Instructor Policies I will not discuss grades over the phone. You may request your grades by e-mail from your Lamar State College-Port Arthur e-mail account (for example, doeja@lamarpa.edu) or by student-instructor conference.
Attendance Policy Absences, Tardiness, and Make-ups: Attendance is required, and punctuality is expected. You are responsible for all materials covered in class. If you quit coming to class and do not officially drop, your grades will be averaged, and you will receive the grade represented by this average. The administrative details are your responsibility (You must officially drop the course). You can only miss one practical exam with an excused absence (excluding the final), and you must take the final exam (practical #4). If you miss a practical exam, you will take a comprehensive lab final to substitute for the missed practical exam. Excused absences include medical and family emergencies and are determined at the instructor's discretion. Poor preparation or conflict with other scheduled exams is not a valid excuse for missing an exam.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies
  1. No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.

  3. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
